What do the measures mean?
You may recall that I have a thing about measures, that I like them to report stuff that will help a firm achieve its objectives, and also be meaningful, that is tell a story that will direct the reader’s attention to important matters so that appropriate action can be taken.
In “linked daily rundown” of 3rd October 2018 the fake honey scandal was narrated. If you don’t know about this …100 samples of honey from around the world were tested for adulteration (eg. addition of rice syrups). “Of the 38 Australian made samples, 18% were shown to be adulterated” says LinkedIn.
The story I read from this narrative is that we have an Australia – wide problem. Now lets pretend I am a buyer in say a supermarket, what would you expect me to do? You’d want me to start planning how I am going to replace the problem honey with the good stuff, wouldn’t you. I’d be distracted from my daily responsibilities into dealing with this food fraud.
The ABC was a party to the investigation so I checked out its site and found…. the samples from WA and SA are pure honey. I am in WA.
The issue is still important of course but now my focus is on different opportunities.
Measures tell a story for the purpose of initiating action. Do yours tell the stories they should?
